Luca – Our Take
Luca is best known for its homemade pasta and amazing wood fired Neapolitan pizzas. Since its opening in 2016 it has become the go to upscale Italian restaurant in Lancaster. As a transplant from New Jersey with loads of Italians friends and in-laws, I’ve been on the hunt in PA for a taste of home. Luca is an answer to my prayers. It has, in my humble opinion, the straight up best Italian food in the area.
Luca Food & Drink
Our most recent trip to Luca started off with a mocktail, specifically a strawberry soda, which was made fresh with real strawberries. We also couldn’t have an Italian meal anything without a big glass of red. Their wine list isn’t 400 pages long, but the choices they offered by the glass were pretty well known.
Starters included scamorza which was melted mozz with black truffle honey (!!!) served with grilled bread. This unexpected combination was something we never had, but needless to say, the plate was clean pretty quick. The second starter was a personal favorite, zucchini flowers stuffed with cheese and lightly fried. This seasonal masterpiece was perfectly cooked. At last check it was so seasonal it isn’t on the menu anymore. This is one of the things I love about Luca, you can enjoy something new and exciting every time you go.
For dinner we had a wood fired pizza, with lots of cheese and green onions. If you have never had a wood fired pizza, you have to get down there quickly. There is something about a slightly charred crust that makes a pizza exceptional. We also had hand made ravioli stuffed with cheese and crab meat. The pasta was cooked to a perfect al dente and the cream sauce was seasoned beautifully.
The hidden gem at Luca is definitely their dessert menu. This time around we had a trio of homemade gelato, which was heavenly, accompanied by ricotta fritters with a rhubarb jam that added the perfect amount of sweetness.
Get To Luca
Luca, like many restaurants in the Lancaster area uses fresh ingredients and is constantly changing their menu to match the season. We highly recommend this place as the #1 Italian restaurant in Lancaster. Be sure to make a reservation, this place is always packed.
